In a new town with a new team, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields said this week he has become “low-key addicted to getting into his Bible.”
It may seem like a low-key statement, but it’s more than that. For one thing, Fields pointed people to Scripture. That’s a significant step for someone growing in their desire to understand more of The Word.
Fields admitted he wasted a lot of time early in his NFL career, listening to the noisy opinions of others and allowing that to shape a big part of his life.
According to a post by Sports Spectrum on X, Fields also explained how he dove into the Bible and what he discovered in the process.
“I learn something new every day, and I’m able to apply it in my everyday life,” Fields said. “I was sleeping on reading the Bible earlier in my life, and I wish I would’ve started earlier.”
Fields positively used his new direction, giving others — who might be where he once was — a good place to start.
“So I encourage you all to go read a little bit, starting in Proverbs, then move on from there,” Fields said.
Those are wise words from Fields because he pointed to the wisdom in Proverbs, and showed his heart is in the right place. He’s thinking of others and loving his neighbors as himself.
Another good place for new Bible readers to start is the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew, chapters 5 through 7.
It’s refreshing to see a high-profile NFL player share his love for Scripture. Taking time to read the Bible in a world that requires huge blocks of time and energy is a tremendous witness for the Lord.
