Ted jumped to his feet, wincing at the pain as he stood. 

Oh, not a good idea. Passing out now.

Ted opened his eyes.

“There he is,” Bradley said.

Jerry sat beside the air mattress. 

“Dad, are you OK?” Jerry said, staring into his dad’s eyes with his eyebrows pulled together.

“I guess so,” Ted said. “What happened?”

Bradley shook his head and said, “Jerry mentioned Marti and you tried to stand up. And you passed out.”

Ted’s eyes grew wide.

“Marti! Is she OK?”

Bradley tightened his lips and looked away. Jerry looked at Bradley.
